·       Bob: Tookie's lawyer, a white man who is determined to clear Tookie's name. He is a brilliant and dedicated lawyer who is also a kind and compassionate man.

·       Eleanor: Tookie's friend and confidante, a white woman who is a former librarian. She is a kind and compassionate woman who is determined to help Tookie.

·       Flora: Tookie's granddaughter, a young woman who is struggling to come to terms with her grandmother's imprisonment. She is a kind and compassionate woman who is determined to help her grandmother.

·       Vernon: Tookie's grandson, a young man who is struggling with addiction. He is a kind and compassionate man who is determined to get his life back on track.
